Earning the Name Babbling Brooke

As a kid, I always enjoyed being curled up with a book and challenging myself to read the Harry Potter series over, each time a new book came out. When I wasn’t reading, I was writing the LONGEST stories and dreaming of one day holding my own book.

Avoiding my Passion.

Growing up, I gave up my dream of becoming an author to pursue a “real” career. But after bumbling away through adult job after adult job, I couldn’t seem to find anything that felt right. It wasn’t until I picked up a notebook and started writing again that I realized what I wanted to do was staring me right in the face.

Realizing the Truth.

Once I decided to write books for kids, it took five YEARS to make it happen. First I had to learn what it takes to write a book (and that was a lot!) then I had to figure out how to publish it. None of that would’ve been possible without my amazing critique group and writing friends from SCBWI!

Fulfilling my Dreams.

Now that I have books out, I’m FINALLY able to live that little girl’s dream of being a real author. I write more books, go on book signings, and read my story to groups and groups of kids -- my favorite part of writing!

Beyond the Cover.

I’m also a dog mom to an adorable golden retriever named Brandon and recent married the love of my life, Mitchell. We live in Iowa and enjoy long walks around the dog park.
